Wildlife Rescue Center rehabilitates injured, sick and orphaned native wildlife and releases healthy animals to their natural habitat.
Through educational outreach the Center provides environmental awareness, promotes a harmonious relationship with native wildlife,
and encourages the community to protect our delicate ecosystems.
Wildlife Rescue Center moved in 1999 next to Castlewood State Park
Our animal care staff and volunteers work along with veterinarians, who volunteer their services and furnish quality medical care to our wildlife patients.
When the animals are healthy and strong enough to survive on their own, they are released to return to the wild.
Our 9,000 square foot facility is accompanied by outdoor fox and coyote enclosures, an outdoor aviary used for waterfowl rehabilitation and raccoon silos.
During the spring and summer months, visitors enjoy watching our resident beavers work to secure their dam on our 2-acre pond. Families of wood
ducks and green herons frequent the water as well as an occasional blue heron. A half-mile nature trail around the pond serves to educate
groups of children, scouts and students about Missouri's wetlands, prairies and native wildlife.
Wildlife Rescue Center was founded in 1979 in Kirkwood
A large outdoor deck and gazebo with the potential to accommodate 75 visitors, serves as an outdoor education area. Youth, ages 6-14, attend
summer camp and special holiday and spring break sessions at the Wildlife Rescue Center.
Since its beginning, Wildlife Rescue Center has treated more than 30,000 orphaned, sick or injured native wildlife including amphibians, mammals, reptiles and water fowl.
In the past eight years, more than 18,000 children and adults have attended the Wildlife Rescue Center's educational programs.
Each presentation is specially designed to increase environmental awareness and encourage respect for our delicate ecosystems.
Tours of the Wildlife Rescue Center are available during days of operations by reservation. In addition you can request a program, delivered by engaging,
knowledgeable speakers. Wildlife Rescue Center's educational programs are presented at schools, churches, service clubs and organizations,
and fulfill the Center's mission to public education by instilling respect for all life. The tours and programs also serve to foster a harmonious
relationship between the public and its wildlife neighbors. The community is provided with environmental awareness and encouraged to respect our
delicate, natural ecosystems.
