The Junior Wildlife Program (JWP) is an ongoing school-year program that offers young people the chance to become "volunteers" at the Wildlife Rescue Center. Youth ages 6-12 can sign up to be a Junior
Wildlife Member, and participants typically meet one Sunday afternoon per month. The program offers hands-on activities to educate and inspire our members to make a difference with both wildlife and
in the environment.
Though Junior Members do not directly handle any animals, they will have the opportunity to observe the animals in our care and learn about wildlife rehabilitation. Experiences in the program increase
their understanding of wildlife and the issues that they face. The Wildlife Rescue Center strives to instill respect for all life and appreciation for our natural resources.
Each meeting focuses on an aspect of native Missouri wildlife, and involves interactive components which allow participants to actively explore the Wildlife Rescue Center and learn about the effects
of human interaction with wildlife and the environment.
JWP members also have the opportunity to be rewarded for self-directed learning through our Activity Tracker journal, prizes, and recognition. There are no minimum participation requirements for
this component.
Junior Members play an important role at the Wildlife Rescue Center as they are young ambassadors of wildlife education. Familiarizing young people with wildlife issues at an early age encourages
their appreciation of wildlife, teaches social responsibility, and provides them with valuable knowledge that they can share with their families, fellow students, and friends.
